Eskom is urging all prepaid electricity customers to recode their meters by 24 November 2024, as required by the Standard Transfer Specification Association (STSA). After this deadline, meters will no longer accept electricity tokens unless they are updated to Key Revision Number (KRN) 2. Eskom said that there will be no extension to the 24 November 2024 deadline for the Token Identifier (TID) update.How to check if your prepaid meter has been upgraded:Enter the code “1844 6744 0738 4377 2416” on the keypad. “The screen will display either the number ‘1’ or ‘2,’ and in some cases, letters may appear with the KRN number. A display of “1” means the meter still operates on KRN1 and needs to be updated, while a “2” confirms the meter has been upgraded to KRN2.Madibeng Municipality said earlier in October that it had replaced, or reset, 7 642 of the 21 722 prepaid meters in the municipal area. The municipality still had over 14 000 meters to replace. With only 24 days to go, Madibeng customers are getting panicked.Despite repeated requests for an update on the progress and how customers can determine if their meters are updated, Madibeng Municipality did not respond to Kormorant’s enquiries.
